Unity within the Family- FATHER/HUSBAND

Unity Within the Family
Psa. 133:1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; 3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
Gen. 2:18 And the LORD God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
Gen. 2:21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

The “Family is the first institution created by God and forms the bedrock or foundation to society. When God created the family, He created it as a single unit to bring glory to His name. Since the family was a divinely designed by the wisdom of God, it is only wise for us to search the scriptures that we may have a proper understanding of what God expects from us.

This morning we will be praying for the family with a special focus on our fathers. I have prepared some scripture references that relate to the father’s role within the family.

A Father’s Roles and Responsibilities within the Family

Husband & Father
The husband and father serves as the leader or head of his family. He provides spiritual leadership and guides his family in the way of the Lord.
Gen. 18:19 I have singled him out so that he will direct his sons and their families to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just. Then I will do for Abraham all that I have promised.”
Josh. 24:15 But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.”

Provides for His Family
1Tim. 5:8 But those who won’t care for their relatives, especially those in their own household, have denied the true faith. Such people are worse than unbelievers.

Love, Understand and Honors His Wife
Eph. 5:25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her
Eph. 5:28 In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. 29 No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church.

Compassionate towards His Children
Psa. 103:13 The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.

Instruct and Disciplines His Children
Psa. 78:5 For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children,
Eph. 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.

Warned not to Anger or Exasperate His Children
Eph. 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
Col. 3:21 Fathers, do not aggravate your children, or they will become discouraged.
